Solid camera, very versatile.......2007-09-20

I've had this camera for over a year, have taken thousands of pictures, and am completely happy with it and recommend it (or its newer siblings) highly.

Prior to the Lumix FX01, I'd owned several Canon pocket-sized digital cameras (S100 and SD400), and considered myself a die-hard fan of Canon's quality and interface, but when I broke my SD400 (my fault, not Canon's) and needed a replacement, I was drawn to the Panasonic/Lumix instead. Thinking back to the SD400 and the photos I'd taken, 2 problems stood out: a lot of the pictures I took were blurry, and often I couldn't fit everything I wanted to in the frame.

For the blurriness problem, usually the photos would look good on the camera's built-in screen, but when viewed at their full size on a computer or printed, the blurriness would be apparent. The obvious solution: optical image stabilization. It's just really hard to hold something as small and light as these cameras perfectly still, so OIS is a big help.

For the fit-in-frame problem, sometimes moving farther away is just not an option, and 35mm equivalent starts you off too close. The obvious solution: a wider lens. Unfortunately, that was very rare in pocket cameras... until the FX01.

I chose the FX01 because at the time of its introduction, it was the only pocket digital camera whatsoever to combine a wider-than-35mm-equivalent lens and optical image stabilization. This was enough to make me take a chance on a new brand, not knowing how well the controls and interface would perform in actual use. Over the next year, it's turned out great -- there are somethings I've preferred about Canons and some things I've preferred about this, but this camera has taken consistently good (and not blurry!) pictures.

One more thing I only learned after the purchase: the build quality (construction and materials) of this camera is amazing. I don't use a carrying case for my pocket cameras, since then it can't fit in my pocket! Instead, I just keep the camera naked in a pocket with no keys or other metal objects, or keep it in a $5 soft sunglasses sack. After a year of this treatment, the SD400 still worked fine but had a bunch of minor scratches and a few missing screws. After over a year of this treatment, in comparison, the FX01 still looks brand new. It bears repeating: it's amazing.

The image quality isn't quite perfect (one common complaint is noisy images under low light conditions), but given the tradeoffs necessary to make something this small with all the other features and abilities you want, I'm completely satisfied.

Since the FX01 pioneered the OIS+wide lens combination, other pocket cameras (Canon's SD800) do it too; a friend has the SD800 and it's great too. You won't go wrong with either one, in my opinion.

I've had this camera for about seven months. It's wonderful! The controls are easy to use, the pictures are very clear, and the motion picture is great. I would recommend this camera to anyone.

I have had many digital cameras over the years, and today have 4 that work. I use this the most just because it is so small and easy to carry. Panasonic is going to release a 12 mp model soon which I might buy.

Stay Away from the Beach.......2007-07-23

If you buy this camera, do not use it anywhere near the beach. I bought one as a present for my daughter going overseas and it broke within a few weeks. I sent it in for warranty service and was told that the warranty was voided because the camera had sand in it. They offered to sell me a new one at a price higher than Amazon charged me. Apparently, others have had problems with sand blowing into the camera - it must not be sealed very well. Customer service was rude and not at all helpful. I would stay away from Panasonic entirely. I will certainly not buy from them again.

Best camera I've ever owned!.......2007-06-30

And I've owned a Canon and Sony. But this stylish, compact Panasonic beats them hands down! Lightweight yet made of quality materials, I often just sling it around my wrist with the complimentary wristband and walk around taking pictures all day.

Pictures are sharp and focused, no matter what light I took them in. It has such a variety of settings for all sorts of occasions that I take quality photos at EVERY setting. The stabilizing feature works PERFECTLY. I thought a friend had ruined a photo by moving the camera the second after he pressed the shutter, but the picture came out crystal clear!

I was very impressed that Amazon shipped me a new product that was MADE IN JAPAN -- and you know that Japan makes quality electronic products. It was a very professional and comprehensive package, I just LOVE this camera!

Excellent monitor, weak speakers.......2003-09-25

This is a great LCD screen, with beautiful picture and very good response time which makes it suitable for games too. Produces sharp images, good contrast and nice colors. Didn't experience any dead pixels so far.
The only reason I'd like to rate it 4 1/2 stars (if that was possible) is that the included speakers are marginal at best. I know almost none of the integrated speakers are good in LCD monitors - but this one is suitable only for simple Windows beeps and default sounds, nothing more.

So get it for the screen, but make sure you have some good speakers if you require decent sound.

Poor quality housing.......2004-07-10

I purchased this Vivitar camera as a gift for my daughter. The camera arrived damaged. The very thin, cheaply made door latch was broken. I have used another model Vivitar camera for years, and have taken beautiful pictures, but his model does not measure up to previous Vivitar quality.

I purchased this camera recently and the only problem I have had with it thus far is the battery not being included as mentioned in the ad,so I did have to purchase one. Otherwise my pictures have come out extremely well and I havent had any other problems with the product as mentioned in the other reviews.I found the instructions included to be very helpful and the camera easily able to be worked. My advice to anyone is to simply try it.

Vivitar Cameras.......2004-04-06

I purchased a Vivitar PZ3560DB. I can't even find any information on the internet. I took the pictures to be developed and the only thing that came up was the date. So I tried to find a website to troubleshoot my problem. Nothing. From some of the comments, it doesn't seem like they can make a decent camera.

FRAGILE LOOKING CAMERA.......2004-03-27

I ORDERED THIS PRODUCT THINKING IT WAS GOING TO BE WORTH IT SINCE IT WAS ON CLEARANCE. I WOULD SAY THAT A DISPOSABLE SINGLE USE CAMERA FROM A DOLLAR STORE WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER QUALITY THAN THIS VIVITAR BRAND. I DID NOT EVEN BOTHER TO TAKE PICTURES WITH IT. THE MATERIAL SEEMS VERY FRAGILE, PLUS THE BATTERY WAS NOT INCLUDED WHEN IT STATED THAT IT WAS. I RECIEVED THE CAMERA YESTERDAY AND TODAY I MAILED IT BACK. I WAS VERY DISSAPOINTED WHEN I OPENED THE PACKAGE. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I PURCHASE SOMETHING FROM TARGET ONLINE. I bought this camera for a birthday party and had to go out and buy a battery which the ad said it came with the camera. Red eye reduction did not work , timing was slow and had to wait at least one minute to take the next picture. Buyers beware!! This camera is a ripoff. I had to go buy another one two days later and return this to Target.

Very good DVD player.......2003-09-18

I have owned my Samsung DVD-709 for over 2 years, and it still works fine. When it first came out, it was truly one of the best top of the line players, retailing then for about 300 dollars or more. It plays DVD, VCD and CD, and is DTS compatible, with S-video and digital audio out. By today's standards, it would be outdated, just like an older Pentium I PC would be. However, most people use their DVD players mainly, if not only, to watch DVD movies. The Samsung DVD-709 does a great job at this and has been very reliabe. Once in a while, particularly with rentals that have some scratches, it would stop or skip, but most players tend to do the same at some point. It has been "old faithful" for me, and I plan to sell mine and upgrade to a progressive player that accepts CD-R/RW with MP3 and JPEG/photo playback (I will probably look at Samsung again). If I was writing this review 2 or 3 years ago, I would have given 5 stars (or more), but this is 2003 and DVD players have become more advanced and cheaper. However, if you want a good and reliable DVD player (or an extra cheap one) just to watch DVD movies, I would definitely recommend this one.

Great Product!.......2002-07-25

I bought this DVD Player 2 years ago, and it's still working perfectly. My only major complaint is that if there is a little piece of dust on the disc, the player skips repeatedly. This only really happens with rented discs. And it spit out rented discs of Scary Movie, and The Cell. Also, this player does not play CD-R, DVD-R, or MP3s since it is an earlier model. But the 3-D surround effect is astounding when used through a conventional stereo system. All in all, a great DVD Player for the first time DVD owner, or for a small room home theater.

A good product when it came out..........2002-01-28

When it first hit the market, this was one of the best DVD players out there. It had all the options, a great remote, and incredible picture quality. Now, however, it is out of date - "high tech" DVDs like _Planet of the Apes_ will make this player go nuts, and sometimes just jam completely. So, while this may be an OK starter DVD, there are cheaper models that are more compatible with the current crop of DVDs. They may not have as many options, but they won't break down when watching "The next big release," either.

I have bought this dvd player because of the price. I was looking for a less-500US dvd since a long time and when I finally find this dvd I bought it. I have not find any problem but a littlle stopped in some scenes, but this is not problem for me, because pressing the play button again I solved the problem. In one word, I like this dvd plaver.

From day one this has been nothing but a problem player, sure, they released a firmware upgrade which fixed the problem of The Matrix not playing at all, a shame it still has difficulty playing such titles as The Mummy, Armageddon, Something about mary (the list goes on). Everything from loss of video/audio sync to the player just spitting out the disk with the message 'this disk cannot be played'. Mind you, this is *after* it being check out by a samsung service center and being cleaned etc... I gave it a fair chance and tried the movies in a diffrent player and lo and behold...they played fine. Samsung however has been no help. Spend the extra 50 to 100 bucks and get a decent pioneer or toshiba player.
