The Panasonic DMR-E95HS progressive-scan DVD player/recorder features a built-in 160 GB hard drive and PC Card slot, making it the hardest-working home entertainment device around. Now you have the option of recording to DVD-RAM and DVD-R media, recording your favorite programs to hard disk, or recording from an external digital video camera to DVD media--all in one unit. The DMR-E95HS is also a progressive-scan DVD player, which means that you can experience extra clear images and higher resolutions on your high-definition or HD-ready television.

The DMR-E95HS can play back DVD-Video, DVD-Audio (2-channel), DVD-RAM, DVD-R (recorded on Panasonic units), Video CD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, and JPEG/TIFF discs, and can record to DVD-RAM and DVD-R media. It features selectable recording modes including XP, SP, LP, EP, and FR, and you can get 284 hours maximum recording time in EP mode. There is also the option for bilingual recording (to DVD-RAM only). The player has a playlist playback function, and also features aspect ratio control, dialog enhancer, frame advance and reverse frame step, slow motion playback, and a cinema mode for more cinema-like colors and improved resolution and contrast. Other features include two-channel Dolby Digital audio recording, and Advanced Surround (simulated surround sound from two speakers).

Recording to hard disk is easy with a multitude of special features, including a Time Slip Roller, simultaneous record and play, and a direct navigator. The Time Slip Roller (or Time Slip Button on the remote control) allows you to press just one button during recording to start playing back the scene recorded 30 seconds earlier, and you can search for scenes in units of one minute within the recorded section while you're watching the scene on a small onscreen window. Simultaneous record and play lets you record an episode of one program while you're watching another episode at the same. The direct navigator displays the list of programs recorded to disk so you can quickly see what's available, erase recorded programs, or select programs to watch.

A bevy of inputs and outputs lets you connect the DMR-E95HS to nearly any external home entertainment device you can think of. It sports three composite video, three S-video, and one RF input, along with one switchable component video, two S-video, and two composite video outputs. Audio outputs include two L/R outputs plus an optical digital out for DTS and Dolby Digital output. It also features a FireWire input for connecting to a compatible digital video camera (via an IEEE 1394 cable) for playback on your television, and also gives you the convenience of transferring your home movies to DVD media. This thing sucks. there is little else to say other than there is a class action lawsuit somewhere here. PANASONIC this is FRAUD!!!!! Or outright robbery. No support. Does NOT work. I say anyone who has had success with this unit is probably lying or a plant from panasonic. Errors all the time and never loads the TV Guide BS. Just a giant waste of money!!! If there were an option for no stars I would have used that. Amazon should not even be selling this. It is not fair to loyal customers.

Can't believe it!.......2007-03-12

If the description here is correct, this set is completely crippled compared to other Panazonic models. It is said it will only read DVD -R written on other Panasonic recorders (!!!) and that it can only write to and read DVD -R. Panasonic used to make recorders limited to writing DVD -R, but since then has produced sets that can write to DVD -R DVD + R and DVD -RW. Why the jump backwards? I've never heard of any model that can only read DVD -R produced by recorders only of the same brand. This is absurd!
The price listed is also about double wha it should be.
Add all this to the other complaints and it's avoid at all costs.
I incidentally own a Panasonic with a 80 GB hard disk and have recorded many hundreds of hours to the HD and made hundreds of DVDs without a problem.
Anyway, I wouldn't buy ANY DVD recorder now unless it has an ATSC tuner included. Otherwise it becomes obsolete in two years when analogue TV is supposed to disappear.
Manufacturers, including Panasonic, are making sets with the digital tuners for the European market. Why not in the USA?

Repeated problems with DMR-E95H.......2006-11-24

I love the concept of this product but the Panasonic implemetation is WEAK! I originally purchased a DMR-E80 and it worked very well long enough to get past the one year warrenty then failed. I was told that the logic card needed to be replaced for $300 parts plus labor. A little shopping around on the net abnd I found the DME-E95H (twice the disk space) could be had for $360 from Beach Camera.

The E95 didn't make it out of warrenty before failing. The unit was mailed to a service center and it was repaired. I have had the unit for about two months since the repair and it has started to exhibit the same symptoms as before.

Symptom: at power-up the unit displays "Please Wait" for about 15 seconds and then displays "self Check" for about 30 seconds. The unit then appears to function normally for about 60 seconds and then fails to respond to commands from the remote. Shortly afterwards the unit shuts itself off (displayes "bye"). The disk or cable output from the unit continues for a short period (even though the unit appears to be shutdown) and then stops.

Fortunately, Panasonic offered me an extended warrenty (what were they thinking?) that I took advantage of. I will continue to return this unit to the panasonic service center as my way of extracting revenge.

I strongly recommend that you avoid Panasonic DVR products. My experience with two models has been extremely disappointing.

Great unit, but VERY unreliable........2006-08-18

I have owned this model since March 2005. Almost all of the time the TV Guide hasn't worked (I have heard this might be a ploy by my cable company to push people to their DVDRs). At any rate I gave up on this feature.

For the first year the unit had a tendency to go to "SELF TEST" whenever I changed disks, either DVD-R or DVD-RAM. After "SELF TEST" it almost always burned a good disk. This would have been OK excepte for wasting 15-30 minutes every time this happened. I stuck to major brand disks. Panasonic will tell you to use their disks but they are not easy to find in stores and don't come in large muffins so they tend to be expensive.

Surprisingly, at the 1-year point the unit started working perfectly. I went from March 2006 to August without a "SELF TEST". Today it refused to recognise the same disks it had been burning for weeks. So I will have to take it in on the extended warranty.

Panasonic customer service is terrible. Don't waste your time phoning. You will be on hold forever. About a year ago I wrote Panasonic and received a call eventually (still in the warranty period). They won't acknowledge that there is a systematic problem with this unit. They try to blame it on the disks. They also would not make any adjustment other than offer to sell me another unit at a discount.

I like most things about the user interface. It allows very precise editing. When it works it produces great disks. The hard disk holds a lot.

Forget about the lousy TV Guide feature!

It is terrifying reading the reviews on here, but there are no problems with mine (other than the TV guide silliness).

Record shows to the HD, then you can edit out commercials etc and burn to DVD-R, which you can finalize to play on other DVD players. We have had ours for 9 months. We have filled the hard drive a few times (left it recording by mistake), divided and shortened scores of recordings, burned about 10 DVD-Rs, taken power hits, no problems.

The U99 bugs seems to be fixed and there are websites out there to help fix you box if you need to.

Great receiver+speakers, finnicky DVD changer.......2004-05-29

We bought this Sharp system (AT1000 Receiver + 5 speakers + subwoofer, AT4000 5-disk DVD changer) because we had read/heard good things about Sharp's "1-Bit" audio converter. Also, this was selling for considerably less than comparable models, yet sounded the same or better.
After owning this for over a month: The audio side of this HTIB is great. The receiver and speakers were a breeze to install. I was pleasantly surprised by the audio quality; especially the subwoofer since it is not a powered sub.
The only problem with this system is the DVD changer. The picture quality is good but changing DVDs is a little finnicky. Sometimes the carousel spins three times before letting you add or remove a DVD. Plus the DVD remote doesn't have all the features we had in our old DVD player. Try it out at the store first if you can since it is a little annoying to use everyday.

Summary: For the price it sells for, I doubt there is another HTIB that's better all-round, especially in terms of sound quality.

I got SO Tired of the ever-spiralling theatre tickets! For the price of a couple tickets, couple Pepsis and a tub of buttered popcorn, you can BUY two or three DVD!

No more someone talking over the movies plot; no someone kicking the back of your seat the whole time no matter how many times you ask them to stop; no stick floors from dropped drinks; no eegits screaming "Don't go in there, man!" or "What till you see where he kills here" thus revealing the whole plot because that was the 12th time the saw the movie today!!! Great for Watching DVD's and Retouching Digital Photos.......2002-09-03

I bought this Sony 19" Trinitron Monitor with the intention of watching DVD movies and retouching digital photos. I've been very pleased.

For DVD's, the picture is sharp, and, with my Sony Vaio computer, the action is smooth and continuous.

For photo retouching, the resolution is high, and the color reproduction (as compared to the actual printed photo) is extremely accurate.

The monitor was plug-and-play (no adjustments necessary when I installed it, nor again since). The monitor's (exterior) color also matches my Sony Vaio (desktop) precisely. (Cool!)

I could've gotten a LCD monitor. But it would've been smaller and less sharp. The 19" Trinitron was the largest that would fit on my desk. Overall, I've been very happy.

For maximum DVD and digital photo performance -- this is clearly the monitor to get!

Do Not Pay Extra For A Sony.......2002-06-12

I paid extra to buy a Sony with the expectation that it would be a more reliable product and with the further expectation that if I were to have problem with the monitor that Sony would stand behind its product. Unfortunately that has not proven to be the case. The monitor began to develop problems three weeks after the warranty had expired and Sony's response was essentially "tough luck".

I've had my phone for about two years and I'm pleased with it. It's real simply, not a lot bells or whistles and very inexpensive. Great for a tweens bedroom. I recommend it.

Not worth it.......2004-06-24

I bought this phone because I thought it was good looking and the price was great! However after having it only a year, I cant use my phone for more than 20 minutes without the battery dying. I charge it all the time that I am not using it (which is most of the time) and the battery still dies. Forget about having more than 1 phone call a night, it dies quickly even if you charge it in between calls. I suggest spending a few dollars more and getting a better quality phone. I am currently looking for a new one, but this time I am doing better research!

I was looking for a slim DVD player that would allow me to streamline my equipment in my home office. This Samsung made the grade. The unit is easy to operate and looks marvelous set on an acrylic shelf above my HD player. Much better than the old one that took up too much space and didn't fit into my decor.

WORTHLESS.......2007-08-08

We have hardly used this player and already it is broken. The DVD door will not open any longer, and to remove our son's DVD we are going to have to take the whole thing apart! We were disappointed from the get go with how SLOW it worked. It takes a long time to load and skip scenes. NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY! Buy another brand altogether. When we replace this one, WE WILL!

Horrible Quality, Very Disappointed.......2007-06-15

I purchased this Samsung DVD-VCR combo in March of 2006. It worked flawlessly, until a year later. Now most vhs tapes won't play (constant lines, sound goes in and out and tracking doesn't work), and now the dvd has quit working. It will only play certain dvd's, for most others (especially ones by Universal) it makes this horrible sound while trying to read the disc, and eventually, a screen comes up saying "dvd is not playable- please check disc". I have checked the discs that are so-called "unplayable" on my stand-alone dvd player, my computer dvd player and even on my portable dvd player, and the discs worked fine in all 3 machines.

The best word to describe this piece of electronics is junk- pure junk. I thought Samsung would be reliable, as I had purchased a Samsung tv many years ago that still works! It's sad that the quality of today's electronic products are getting worse and worse. I will be replacing this thing- and dumping it in the trash. It's not even worth giving to Good Will!

A piece of junk.......2007-02-25

I bought this in November and am deeply disappointed. The VCR did not work, it played sound, but no picture. The DVD player displayed subtitles no matter what I did. After several torturous hours with the Samsung customer service, they finally agreed I had a problem and had me mail it back to them (at my expense). I received the same machine back, and nothing was fixed.

I refuse to argue with the Samsung customer service people again, I am junking this machine,
