It may be disappointing.......2003-12-09
I purchased it about 3 months ago to replace my Iomega Predator 48x USB2. about a month after I bought I started having freezing problems in the middle of burning so I emailed the Manufacture and took them 2 weeks to get back to me, (I try to call their toll free # but never had more than 30 min to wait for someone to answer) and their answer was to try the burner on a different computer I don't know the situation of other people but I do not have extra computer laying around my house, so I asked a friend and got the same problems . To this day I have resolved the frizzing by selecting the speed and not setting it at more than 32x which is well bellow the rated speed, after emailing them again about my finding they replied that some times it happens with different media that is not recommended for the drive, "Memorex and Sony media is not recommended. Verbatim seem to work well, though.", to which I tried and didn't solve anything. It was very upsetting having spend so much time on something and have come up empty handed and not just that but have paid over 120 for a drive that burns at 32x. which brings mee too another issue that even though this drive its rated for 52x I never saw it burned at that speed, I have tried different software(Easy CD Creator, even the Plextor Tools that come with the burner, and others), also used different media and no difference. I have a Gateway P3 1000 computer running Windows XP Pro and my friend has a Dell P4 running windows XP Home. My recommendation to you is that if customer care is important to you then shop for a different brand.
Perfect for Exact Audio Copies.......2003-05-16
This drive is amazingly accurate. I selected it to rip a thousand CDs at full resolution based on the numerous positive reviews for Plextor drives on sites devoted to exact audio copying. What I learned along the way in upgrading from my previous drive (Sony OEM of Lite-On) is that audio CDs encode bits differently than CD-ROMs, and that not all CD players are created equally in terms of their ability to read the exact bits from audio CDs.
Using a freeware (well, technically postcardware, the author would appreciate a postcard) program called Exact Audio Copy, or EAC, it is possible to assess how accurately an audio track is being read from CD. The audio CD standard allows for a fair degree of error-correction in the CDs, as well as fairly substantial error-correction via interpolation; CD players vary in their accuracy at reading and in their error-correction software. EAC is particularly good in taking multiple passes over the CD and verifying segments in which the reads disagree. EAC also controls disk read speed and looks up CD titles in a free CD database to structure the way in which tracks are stored to disk.
The bottom line is that this Plextor provides 100.0 percent accurate copies (according to EAC) on 9 out of 10 tracks, with the remaining track usually scoring a 99.9 or 99.8. My previous CD-RW was scoring 97.0 comparitively. I should note that this is at roughly an 8-10X speed multiplier, not at the 52X at which this drive is rated for super-fast CD-ROM reading and writing.
This is the drive you want to make exact audio copies. It's also surprisingly quiet and smooth.

Agonizingly slow, wait, drive doesn't spin. A couple megs are copied in 15 minutes and then the drive stops.

Top quality CD-RW drive..........2004-08-21
If your looking for the absolute best CD-RW drive out there, this is what your looking for. The Plexwriter Premium has support for any kind of job you need to get done with a CD-R/RW. The drive is suprisingly accurate for ripping audio CDs with EAC, and is capable of making perfect copies for several (but not all) copy-protected PC games. This drive is also capable of high speeds up to 52x, but I believe quality and reliablity over speed for CD-RW drives, so the capped speed of the drive is set 40x (which is default), but can be easily changed using the Plextools software. Talking about Plextools, it allows you to configure several features and settings for your Plextor drive exclusively that you wouldn't find with other conventional drives, such as compacting CDs up to 1GB (GigaRec), password protecting discs (SecuRec), setting spin-down time, tray eject speed, and much more.
I've been using this drive for over a year now and I am very satisfied with Plextor on this one, best CD-RW drive ever made.

I agree with Bob Carpenter, i have been using Plextor burners all my life, my first plextor was a 12x scsi, second was a IDE 40x, now i have the 52x. The quality is second to non, plus i never had a problem burning or ripping at max speed.
Plextor drives r the best for making perfect copies. I tried liteon retail and oem. plus samsung burners but they were no good. I used these three to copy the Diablo II play disc and the Command & Conquer 2 cds, a total of 2 tries on each drive, even though they finish burn, when using the cds they dont start the game. But when i use the plextor + the clonecd software i got no problems and playable copied games, for this reason i never had to hack any of the games.

The features of this drive makes other CDRWs look like child's play. I purchased this drive with the sole intention of making quality backups of my music CDs.
But, I've yet to get this drive to work right.
Techie-speak warning...
I first installed this drive in "slave" mode--as the second drive of the IDE controller--and it worked in mode PIO-4; very slow. So I purchased an ATA133 IDE controller (just for the burner) to have it work in the recommended DMA mode. That didn't help. It would not burn faster than 24x.
I tried several brands and manufacturers of CDRs; both silver and blue azo dye. My other OEM CDRW/DVD drive (Samsung SM-352B) works like a champ with only a 2MB buffer, yet this one at twice the price has been a headache. So, I'm reinstalling WinXP before I send this in for repair...
Update Sep 23, 2003:
Reinstalled WinXP and the problem remained. After exchanging several e-mails with Plextor Support, and several jumper settings later they agreed to replace the drive. Received the replacement--a new unit actually--and installed it. Turned on the machine and there it was in DMA-mode. Uneventful. Plug-and-play. The way it should have been out-of-the-box. It appears I had a lemon.
Although I am taking a star for the bad experience, I am quite satisfied to have found support to be technically knowledgeable of the product, and hassle-free in getting the problem resolved quickly.
The new burner has also turned out excellent.

I received this camera as a gift and am VERY disappointed with it!!! Pictures taken outside were ok at best, and the ones taken inside, even with alot of lighting, are very dark and hard to see. I would recommend buying a disposable camera before buying this one.

This camera is horrible! I was going away to live in Eastern Europe and didn't want to be bothered with looking for a camera there so I bought two!! Two months later the winding mechanism had broken on both of them. I was so ticked. I thought maybe it was some kind of super fluke but then I talked to some other people who had bought the same camera and their winding mechanism broke too. So my advice is spend another Ten bucks and by a camera that is going to work for longer than a month.

I would only recommend using this camera for taking pictures outside on sunny days. Even taking pictures in a car when there is still daylight produces dark pictures. This camera just doesn't seem to do well inside.

I had this camera in the past, it was the first camera my husband gave me for our anniversary, but it was stolen. When we saw the same camera in Amazon and we saw the price, we went for it right away. Even my cousin bought one, and she loves the camera too. The best thing is light weight, auto rewind and what I like the most is that I could have the dates printed on the pictures if I want to. Imagine how many pictures people have and don't have an idea on when was taken. The camera is a great gift and it is a great value.

I bought the XT 80GB and while it does take some time to learn how to use it to its full potential, transfering files between my camera (+2GB CF cards) and my computer was extremely straight-forward.
My caution (and reason for the low rating) is this: even with the flip screen to protect the LCD, my LCD cracked within 3 months of purchase. It's not like it was being tossed around, or just thrown into a backpack. I've invested alot in my kit and use well-padded cases and packs to transport my equipment. The XT was snuggly and securely padded above and below in the heart of carry-on sized Tamrac Cyberpack8 for a short flight. No turbulence, nothing cramping it, even a case in the outer pocket didn't break.
Maybe it was a fluke, but I thought the price was a bit too good for 80GB of storage when i bought it; shoulda known better.
Just as a note - I gave it 2 stars because even though the screen doesn't work, I can still back up cards and download them with the same interface (obviously) on my computer. The drawback is that i can't confirm the transfer to the unit and might lose parts of a shoot - which is why it's just collecting dust in a closet right now - but it is still usable in a limited sense
FlashTrax XT.......2006-04-01
It is a great item except it will not accept cards of more than 1G.
It chokes on anything larger. I was assured by the company it would work with my 2G cards, but it does not.
While talking with technical support they revealed the unit will not work with anything larger than 1G. It will sometimes work with a 2G card, but rarely.
If you use nothing larger than a 1G card the product is great.

I just got one of these to go with my new 10MP DSLR camera/memory hog so that I won't need to sort through 50 CF cards to keep track of my pictures when I travel. The folding lid is great to protect the screen, buttons logically laid out, and the menus are easy to navigate. The MP3 and movie players are an awesome bonus for long flights or train trips. The built in FM radio is pretty cool too.
It's a little bit of work to manage files using their push-button navigation structure, but it's a small inconvenience for everything else it does. It's easiest to wait till you plug into your PC to deal with that stuff. Battery life could be a little better, but I haven't quite run it dry yet.
Get the 80GB! MP3's & a few movies will take up a bit of space before you ever transfer your first CF card of photos.
Flash Trax XT memory card reader.......2006-02-10
I just got my Flash Trax XT today and was shocked to discover that it won't read Sony Memory Sticks. I tried to see if they have an adapter so that the reader will read my memory sticks but none is available. I can't understand why it does not support one of the most widely used memory cards in the world. Or at the very least have and adapter at a reasonable price that I can buy. Why was the fact that memory sticks don't work in this device not made clear in the buying information. The player looks like it is a very nice unit but I'll never know..........
Excellent Choice for anyone.......2006-01-31
I am not a computer geek like some people, but with a little practice, I found the Flash Trax XT an excellent device. It was a Christmas gift for my wife and she loved it. The 80 GB is tops and I recommend that if anyone decides to purchase this device, make sure you get the 80 GB and you will really appreciate your choice as you become accustomed to it's capabilities. The only down side that I found was that the instructions may not have been as detailed as they could have been, but then sometimes a little less information is better then to much. I travel a lot and I have no regrets on this purchase and have really enjoyed all that it can do. My wife tells me that I use her present more then she does. Overall, it is fantastic!

Recently decided to use my dvd slot on my thinkpad t60p for another hard-drive. This external slimline dual dvd writer runs off my usb port: the included power adapter is not required for newer machines. Exactly what I needed.......2007-01-10
No extra AC power cord needed. My DVD player in my laptop went out and the laptop manufacturer wanted $450 for an in-case proprietary replacement. I use the DVD player a lot on the plane and unless I'm in first class, don't have power. This one runs off the USB power. It's very slim and not bulky. Just what I needed. I only have one question. Why don't they sell this thing in computer retail stores. It's a winner!
