This product did very little to cool down my laptop. I still have to keep it propped up to let the heat escape. Disappointing. I don't know what the solution is, but this isn't it! Also the 2 times I have tried to use the added USB ports, they haven't worked.

Good price, but NOT recommended.......2004-05-01

Got this for my girlfriend. It sounded great, and I didn't mind having to convert my MP3s to play them. Unfortunately, it began having problems almost immediately. First, it kept giving an error saying that the hard drive door was open--it wasn't. Then, it kept saying that the hard drive wasn't inserted--it was. Now it only powers up intermittently and will only play one song at a time, if that.

We've called Toshiba and gotten pretty good support (a real, English speaking person!!), but nothing they suggested worked. Now I have to pay to mail it back to the company. To be honest, given the cheap door and hard drive mechanisms (I couldn't believe how flimsy these were!), I'm not confident that this will EVER play for any period of time.

I might just buy a Rio.

mp3's work fine!..........2004-02-18

i got this item from a customer who didn't want it. it was brand new, but he didn't give me the software. no big deal, just plug in the USB wire and open My Computer. A new Disk will appear. that is the toshiba. just open it and drag and drop any songs you want. it doesn't convert mp3's this way. and you can also transfer back to other computers in the same way with no problems. just don't use the software that comes with it. no reason for that.

Good product but has few problems.......2004-02-13

I own this player for 2 months .it seems to work well.The sound quality is good .Most of all the removable harddisk is a great feature.you can store any type of file from your notebook into this harddisk and transport it.But its a little bit heavier than an ipod,also when the player is in pause mode it switches off in less than a minute.the battery life is really good.Also toshiba properietery software is a headache ,For the MP3 its like one way traffic,once your store the Mp3 files into the player with toshiba software u cant play them again in any other player or computer.Overall its a good player with few problems.i hope this review is helpful to you.

This player could have been a big seller but.......
Wonder why it's not called an MP3 Jukebox?! Because it doesn't play MP3's! You must convert your mp3's to a Toshiba encrypted standard, then transfer the newly encryted files to the player.

Seriously, what would be the best application for such a product? Audiobook companies that offer "Free Player" when subscribing to there monthly plan. Then they can sit back and rest assured no one can rip their AudioBook files directly from the player.

The Toshiba mobilphile is a one of a kind mp3 player. Not only does it have a retractable HDD PC Card, put it also has good quality and easy transfer between files. The 5 GB hard drive is "real getter", and it can store about 1000 songs based on the compression settings. Good mp3 player! I have no trouble with it!

Good controller, but..........2007-07-11

I'd echo what the previous reviewer said. Very sturdy, extra white and black buttons are good, etc.

However I did experience the exact same problem with the analog sticks not registering properly, in my case it was the left analog stick listing to the left. I suspect that ALL of the controllers have these problems.

You might want to try the Xbox Cordless Precision Controller, widely regarded as the best wireless controller for the XBOX.

Highly recommended! I'm thinking of buying another one of these Pelican wireless controllers... This thing has a great feel in your hands. It has a slightly rough, rubbery coating all over that is really cool. Problem is, it will eventually get nicked or something & begin to peel off little by little, so you will want to handle it gently all the time. This is why I give it only 4 stars. Even without that nice rubbery coating, it's still a good item to own & use. This controller is very sturdy, balanced with a good weight to it & it is well made. Much prefferable to use over the Logitech wireless, no question. This Pelican is shaped exactly like the real Xbox controller you know & love. One of the best features is the fact it has an extra set of the Xbox black button & white button on the "shoulders" of the controller, that area where the PS2 has it's own 2nd set of triggers & the Xbox360 also has it's additional triggers. That's where Microsoft should have put the black & white buttons in the first place. Sure makes a difference. The the black & white buttons that are in the normal location stick up a bit higher on this controller than they do on the Microsoft version, so they are easier to use... The vibration feature works well, battery life is good. I will say that there seems to be a tiny bit of lag when you are using it that's not noticeable at all in most gaming situations, and this controller may not be 100% as acurate as a wired controller. But again, this seems like a small matter more often than not, and may be something that all wireless controllers tend to suffer from.

Just like watching old slide shows, but BETTER!.......2002-10-26

At first I wasn't quite sure why I needed this, but now I wouldn't own a digital camera without it! When I was a kid we all used to gather in the living room with our slide projector and laugh at all our family pictures...this product does the exact same thing for anyone who owns a digital camera. But it's better! You can add fun backgrounds and borders, captions and titles. My daughter (age 10) and her friends have so much fun taking pictures and then creating crazy slide shows. And it's so easy to record video, so the girls can each have a copy of their creation. A MUST HAVE if you own a digital camera!
