Always needs to be reset.......2003-11-24
I've owned one of these for months now, and I have to reset it at least twice a day, every day. All you have to do is reset it and it comes back up and works great, but we have computers in different rooms, and my wife always knows that the first time she wants to use her computer she has to stop in my office and reset the router first, so it has become a habit. It was easy to install, but what a pain! I'm on this site looking for another one because I just can't take it anymore.
This thing causes frustration..........2003-01-25
I've owned this router for about 6 or 7 months now and I cannot say that I am impressed with it. While the installation was very easy, and it works, it constantly needs to be reset. As a result of constantly resetting it, I've had to call tech support to get help on how to fix it (security settings, resetting the router thoroughtly, etc). They've been helpful both times I've called, but it's irritating that I have to call at all. If I can get the thing up and running (for months, mind you), why can't it STAY up and running??? Oh, and I've never gotten the print server to work. I had very little interest in it doing so, so I didn't try too hard.

I've had this router for around a year now with no problems. I have had it hook up to a static IP and a dymanic one too with no problems. And it wooks great with xbox live. Very user-friendly product.......2002-11-01
I am just a novice as far as networking is concerned. I read about the reviews of different Cable Routers before I decided on this ss2614.
It is very easy to set up. In just 5 or 10 minutes, I am sharing Internet with two computers at home. I can also add my Laptop anytime to the router without any problem. The only problem I had was in sharing computers using different operating systems, Win98 and XP. One of the printers I have is relatively old and does not have XP driver. It is not the router's problem though.
Overall, the product is great and inexpensive. It does come with cat 5e cable.

Recommend SMC. .......2006-11-21
sometimes we have to ask ourselves -- is the consumer equipment we buy designed to be run 24/7 weeks on end? My SMC router worked quite well for about 2 yrs. It was mostly used in wired setting and as a consumer unit it worked fine.
After it failed, tech support was patient to troubleshoot the problem. After numerous resetting and troubleshooting -- my unit was replaced.
The lifetime warranty is amazing, generous and should be one of the reasons people should seriously consider SMC. Currently the warranty has been changed for the 'life of the unit' but still it's amazing that there are companies out there such as SMC that stand behind their products like that. When possible, I try to buy SMC.
On practice side -- online setup menu very well designed, ergonomics of the unit, wireless range and power of the signal -- all great. Network Printer port, unlike what I've seen in competing router models -- my SMC built in printer worked like a charm on every PC, even one running Win 98.
SMC doesn't produce millions of models as competition -- but those it does - are quite good and solid.

While my folks have gone through 3 or 4 routers; this one SMC barricade has served me since 2001 with no complaints.
It is now starting to stop working every so often, so I have to reboot (pull the plug and plug it back in) so I am ready to upgrade.
Signal strength has been great - I can get signal from the far corner of my basement without a problem, anywhere inside the house, and outside as well.
Scam Warrenty, Zero Tech Support.......2004-05-22
SMC's "Lifetime Warrenty" is good for the "Lifetime of the Product", which means that when your product stops working after 1 year (like mine did) they won't fix it. And that's only after you try for days and days to get through to tech support. If you call and they're "busy" you don't even wait on hold, they say "call us back later". And of course, when you call back later, they're still busy. I went through this cycle for days and days until I finally got through and was told my warrenty was worthless.

Good but not great.......2004-03-12
Had this for more than a year with 4 wireless clients (2 SMCs, 1 Netgear, and 1 Dell TrueMobile). Easy set up (Web interface is decent), great value for the low price I paid (after rebate). I don't use the print server so I can't comment.
The only gripe I had is this thing does require occassional resets. I have it connected to a DSL router and this Ethernet interface occasionally get disconnected and the only way to bring it back is to reset the Barricade. The wireless interface stays up, however, so I can reset it via the Web interface and don't have to walk to the Barricade.

I've owned a VTech 1930C for the past several years, and it is still in service and working flawlessly. Recently I decided to add a second cordless phone to my home, and got the very spiffy looking VTech 2461 2.4 GHz model. Alas, the sound quality was not as good! There were assorted hisses and hums, especially when used with a headset. The 1930C had spoiled me into thinking that cordless phone transmissions always sounded near perfect. So, thinking that the problem may be the 2.4 GHz technology, I browsed at VTech's current lineup of 900 MHz phones. Overall, the quality of construction just doesn't measure up to the 1930C.

All features are very competitive and complete BUT the handset volume is absolutely unacceptable. I tried 2 of these and they both are almost useless. I have 4 other Vtechs models with no problems. Vtech company has givin me no recourse or satisfaction to where I would be very hesitant to buy another one of their products.

Worth nothing! I tried using this controller for about a day and the left joystick broke! Clean off! There's nothing you can do with that!
I also gave one star becuase that's all they let you do. Don't they understand that you need a left joystick? Zero stars is more like it.
I tried using super glue cause I paid, like, $20 and the left joystick broke again! Trash! What were they thinking? I need the left joystick! It's one of the ways I do my super moves, man! Broke clean off, it did! Worth less than nothing!

I thought the controller looked great and felt nice in the hands until my left joystick broke as well after a few days use. I have never broken a controller before and I have over 50 from different systems. Very cheaply made.

I bought this for my son this christmas and he used it about 5 min. and the left joystick broke. so I thought, ok, it's just a fluke and i reordered another one and got it today and that controller did the exact same thing.

Two Big Player Thumbs Down!.......2003-12-22
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my buddy and the left-side joystick broke within 30 seconds of him using it. Needless to say, i felt like a royal jerk!...and I won't be returning it since it will cost me as much to buy a different controller than send this one back! It sure is lame that companies make lousy products knowing that they'll break and that they most likely won't be returned...and shame on Amazon for selling it! Be warned, if you are buying this for a child, it might survive for a while with their weaker hand strength but the first time they drop it or give it a toss, it might shatter. I would stick to Microsoft equipment if you can.

I recently installed this card on a rebuilt Compaq for my friend. The Compaq had integrated video on the mother board and no AGP slots. He wanted it set up to play Sims 2 which requires a direct x 9.0 compatible card. I'm happy with the card because it was quick and easy to install and plays Sims 2 with no problem despite the fact the computer is only a Celeron III 800. If your looking for a nice video card that's not going to break the bank this ones for you.
VisionTek no longer honors warranty.......2004-09-05
VisionTek went bankrupt. A new company bought the rights to the VisionTek name. The new company no longer honors any of the "lifetime" warranties (even though they promised that they would in their press releases when they bought the name). The offer no drivers for the previous cards either. In short, if you have any problem with a VisionTek card from more than a year ago, you are stuck. There are many manufacturers of similar cards. Buy a card from someone else who you can hopefuly trust.

I thoroughly enjoy this video card. Works perfectly fine for games (C&C:Generals, UT2003) , video editing, etc. I only occassionally use the TV out but it appears similar to what it does from my friend's more expensive video card. I am using Win 2K and the software sent with it works. I bought the card because it was cheap and in case I may need the VIVO function sometime.
It appears that Soyo motherboards have trouble with this. My DFI motherboard works perfectly fine with it. The other problem in other reviews, MS Plus, is probably due to the program.

... i just bought this, plugged it in, and it worked great! I can play pretty much any game on the highest settings at 1024 x 768 resolution. I've tried call of duty, unreal tournament 2003, warcraft III, need for speed underground, and more all at the highest setting, amazing graphics =)

Just because you had problems does not mean that everybody will too have the same problem.
I have this card for 4 weeks and no complains.
