Wow, these are a waste!.......2007-03-13

I bought two of the 30 packs of Verbatim Lightscribe CDRs from Best Buy. I would be very optimistic in saying that 1 out of 3 actually worked. Oh, the music burns on to them no problem, but when I flip them over to do the lightscribe label, it tells me the media is not recognized as lightscribe. This happens no matter what program I use! And what sucks even worse is that with the coating on the cd, it's almost impossible to write on, so you end up with an un-labeled cd anyways.

Oh well, back to the HP discs :)

Worst Media Ever -- Made by CMC Magnetics!.......2007-01-13

These Verbatim discs are hands down the very WORST blank media I've EVER encountered! They're made by CMC Magnetics -- well known as the worst media manufacturer in the world. But not only are they CMC Magnetics, they're the worst of the worst of CMC Magnetics!

The latest KProbe *hangs* when faced with these, forcing a hard reset. The latest Nero Burning ROM *hangs* when faced with these, forcing a hard reset. The program continues, non-stop, to display "waiting for media" when I use these, and an attempt to abort hangs Windows XP SP2 the same way it hangs Kprobe.

Curiously, the media IDs on these are exactly the same as that on Philips LightScribe CD-R media (they're made by CMC Magnetics as well). However, at least the Philips are recognized by all my software and hardware, quite unlike the Verbatims. That's why I say that these Verbatim are the worst of the worst from CMC Magnetics. (The Philips are no prize, either, but they perform minimally well).

The *ONLY* thing that worked with these media are the LightScribe labeling. But what's the point of labeling discs you can't even RECOGNIZE, let alone burn?

I had the exact same problems with these media in both my Lite-On LH-201AH burner and my NEC ND-2510A burner (the latter is universally recognized as and ideal burner for even low-quality media).

Note that Verbatim had a great reputation when they sold media manufactured by Taiyo Yuden. But, stupidly, they chose to go ultra-cheap and turned to the dreaded CMC Magnetics Corp. Thus, they lost all credibility!

*AVOID THESE LIKE THE PLAGUE!*

We got a new computer that uses the LightScribe technology to burn labels or pictures onto your cd's and dvd's! I used it to burn my husbands mom and dad's photo onto a dvd of old home photos! His parents both died 4 months apart when he was 10 years old back in 1964 so this to him was very special!!

I like the LightScribe concept - no sticking on lables that eventually start to come off. I have used 3 of these Verbatim LightScribe DVD's and the details that were burnt onto the DVD's were sharp, but it was a little hard to see as the DVD itself has a flat, dusty-gold color which doesn't contrast well with the grayscale designs that get burnt on. So, though the designs are sharp, they don't pop out at you. This would work much better on a lighter colored CD.

If you are looking for organization on your office, or your home desk this dvd's will work fine, but you have to get a lot patience making them it takes about 40 minutes making a Dvd labeling with lightscribe. =)

Best Lightscribe discs available.......2007-05-21

I've burned nearly 60 of these and never had a single problem. The images are dark, *much* better than the HP equivalents. The HP discs I've used had faint images (which is funny since it's their technology!) and about 1 out of every 4 HP had a bad data side.
I can't say enough good things about the Verbatims... buy these and save yourself some headaches!

The Basics

Hard Drive: The massive 250 GB Serial ATA hard drive (7200 RPM) offers a wealth of storage space, perfect for storing a vast multimedia collection or for editing digital video.

Great product for a low affordable price.......2004-11-06

We never had a DVD Player before I purchased The Zenith DVB211. My wife and I picked this one because Circuit City had them on sale at the time. We liked the price because if it broke or did not work in about a year it would not be a great lost. We had burned a back-up copy of our purchased children DVD Movie on both DVD-R and DVD+R media to see if my Zenith DVB211 would read them. Also, our Grandchildren are tough on the original DVD Video and our DVD Player. They watch the video over and over so this preserves the original a little longer. The Zenith DVB211 reads both the copy of the Video in either media type. Also, I have a Sony VHS Recorder SLVN750 that I purchased and thought I would see if the DVD Movie could be copied to a VHS without much problem because we wanted to watch TV and they wanted to watch the movie. So, I went out to purchase another DVD Player, but the price was up and the low cost of the VHS Players caught my eye. I would get a VHS Player and set it up in the play room for the children to watch. This worked for a short time as they watch the old VHS Children tapes we had. Then they wanted to watch the movie we had on DVD. So, I decide to try to copy the DVD to the VHS Media using our Zenith DVD player to the Sony Recorder by going through the DVD to the VCR then through the TV. I am happy to report that it made an excellent copy that the grandchildren can watch. This allowed the grandchildren to watch on the VCR in another room while we watched another movie on our only DVD player. It also prevents the grandchildren from accidently breaking our DVD Player. This also allowed us to watch another DVDS or Regular TV while they watch on our cheaper VHS Player in the play room. There are higher priced DVD Players and VHS players we could have purchased, but we are pleased with the setup we have now. PS. I burned the video on my computer with a Sony burner using a program that came with my Sony burner, but it won't burn Copy Protected software. It only allows you to burn un-protected DVDS or CDS as a back-up. If the DVD or CD has a copy protection you can't burn the DVD. protected.

It is pathetic and distressing that the reviews here aren't edited for truth value.
This DVD player DOES NOT play VCDs. It plays only DVD, CDAUDIO and MP3.
I got RIPPED. I have a bunch of VCDs to play and this one's a waste.
