About the brightness.......2004-08-21
It is really darker than other monitors so that I always need to use third party software to make screen brighter.
When u play game (like Counter strike, Doom3), if something is hiding in little bit dark place, u just can't see it. Doom3 doesn't let third party software to change brightness so I can't play doom3 although I have good enough system. It's just total black in doom3 even after u set brightness in doom3 setting to brightest. My friend has Viewsonic E95. His monitor is very good and bright too. So if you have E90 in mind, then just buy E95. It's few bucks difference.

Great Monitor, I've seen a number in commercial use last a long time. I've got one at home I just love. Typical of Viewsonic Quality.
Very pleased.......2003-07-29
Just got this monitor after my 17"'er keeled over and so far, it's great. It's got great resolution and excellent color at every screen setting I've tried. Dot pitch is .27x.25. Adjusting the monitor settings is very simple and intuitive, though getting the screen just right requires a bit of patience if your a perfectionist about it.
Only flaws of this monitor are 1)The name 'Perfectflat' is somewhat of a misnomer. The screen is not perfectly flat, though it is VERY close. 2) The power button requires a bit more push than most (due to the depth of its travel)- a minor gripe, and one that the user will get used to.
Another good thing though, is that the E90 has a nice flat top. -A good place to stick small notebooks and whatever else (that's important if you've ever had the misfortune of dealing with a rounded top monitor)
Overall it's a great monitor. Can't say much about it's lifespan, I've only had it a few days, but Viewsonic typically has three year warranties on their products, so I'm not all that worried. If your looking for a high quality, economical 19"er, this is it. Just make sure you got enough deskspace for it.

Beware of good reviews.......2004-10-06
A good review written soon after purchase is not a good indication of what is in store. Like another buyer, my decision was made on good reviews. The unit worked great for 18 months, but then the drawer refused to open. Not much to be done except get a new one.
On checking the reviews, found a number of people had problems after the honeymoon.
Good while it lasted.......2003-10-04
Worked great for about a year. Then strange things started happening. First, occasionally I couldn't turn the unit off. Then some DVDs wouldn't play although they did on other players. Finally, sometimes the DVD image would get stuck and a full volume very loud screech would come blaring out of all speakers. Ouch! So I am now looking for a replacement - of a different brand.
A NOT HAPPY WITH TOSHIBA REVIEW.......2003-07-12
I bought a toshiba sd 4700 the previous model before this one
and I must say that it performed well, However within a years time it refused to play certain dvd"s that I played many times before on it. It would just lock up at the menu and the machine would just freeze it was extreemly frustrating. So I got rid of it and bought the Harmon Kardon 101 DVD player which I must say blows the Toshiba out of the water, the color and sound are outstanding The Progressive scan on this machine should be what these other light weights are judged by...........
Not reliable in DVD playing.......2003-06-26
I bought my SD-4800 here on Amazon based on the high reviews I've seen. I like the remote control and the player works fine with my HDTV, when it works.
The problem is that it doesn't always work. Most recently I found that it won't play Gladiator. Instead it just puts up an error message "Bad Disk". This is a real store-bought copy of Gladiator, not a copy or home-burnt DVD. There are no visible scratches on the disk and it plays fine in other DVD players (including a Toshiba combo DVD/TV player I have.)
Tech support from Toshiba has been less than helpful. Apparently they don't make firmware updates available any longer.
In short, a fine DVD player for many movies. But it won't work with all, including many popular ones.
Broken after 6 months.......2003-04-21
The motor broke after 6 months of use. Don't buy this DVD player.
