the price diference between 32s and 42s is a little too big for me, so I picked up this TV. its been great! the picture quality is excellent, and I've never had a problem with it.
The controls/on screen setings leave a little to be desired, but its an easy to use set.
It has convinced friends of mine to either get an HDTV set, or look into why their HDTV isn't as eye-poppng as mine.

Sound problems.......2007-03-05

I bought this brand new and had a problem with the sound the moment it was hooked up to the cable. The volume would turn itself off and the cable technician said it's definitely a problem with the tv. As the tv 'warmed' up, the sound became stable,but the next day when I turned the tv on, there was a loud, crackling noise...like how old tv's used to sound when they have to warm up. I will be returning this tv before my 30 days are up. I recommend not buying this TV even though the picture is actually very good. Though the price was the big draw for me, it's not worth all the trouble. Save yourself any headaches and stay away from Viewsonic's tvs.

Great LCD TV, great price..BEWARE of ...................2007-01-04

Hello, we bought this set for our son, within six months the HDMI input stopped receiving a signal, I called got a rma #,was told it would be two weeks from the time they got it too the time I got it back, great !, sent the set in, called a week after they had signed for the set via Fedex, and it was no where to be found, I was told that sets only get put into the computer system when they are worked on, so it's there a week and not even looked at yet, I ask how soon we can expect it and am told that it will be a minimum of fourteen work days and then be shipped via UPS ground service, so add another week(roughly six weeks from the time we shipped it!!!), and the rep's response to my being upset??? That's just how it works. Do yourself a favor, stay away from Viewsonic products, you may never need customer service, but if you do....

SURPRISE!!! No Warranty.......2006-11-22

I purchased this product new and within 6 months it developed a dark vertical line along the right side of the screen. I contacted tech support and was told the case would be elevated and someone would contact me. 6 weeks later I had heard from no one so I called again and was told someone would contact me. Within three days I received a call to tell me that they would not honor the warranty because there were no known casses of this failure with this unit. The bottom line is... Trashy product, trashy service and there really isn't a warranty. Each phone call requires about 1 hour to sit on hold to eventually speak to someone.

I just brought a brand new ViewSonic LCD TV with built-in HD tunner. It came with problems that the HD tunner has to change channel from high number to low number, or it will not show the TV program. Say you want to watch channel 5, if you were at channel 4, move up to 5, the TV shows no program. But if you move up to channel 7, then move down to 5, TV will show the program. It also often drop out the programs, while our other HDTVs made by Toshiba, Samsung, Screpter all working fine, this TV suddenly stop showing the TV progam and display "no signal".
It is DOA, means it like this when we get it.

I called ViewSonic for replacement. They asked for my credit card number to setup an advance replacement. I gave them my credit card number. But they shipped me a refurbished unit that was returned and repaired in the past.

I paid a new TV price, ViewSonic wants me to accept their refurbished TV. I called their support, and talked to their manager. The manager told me that actually they had changed their policy again, since they shipped the refurbished TV to me. They no longer send out replacement any more. When you have a DOA, they will only repair it now.

I had experience with Viewsonic repair in the past. One LCD monitor we sent last year for repair took over four months came back. Another Viewsonic HD12 HD tuner sent for repair got last, after six months, they sent me a replacement. I am not sure I will buy another Viewsonic product any more.

Save your money.......2005-02-23

Disappointment, even at the $90 + shipping I paid for it. Good focus and clarity at 20x, but only with very high contrast (white on black) is the resolution any better--and then only very slightly better--at higher power, because the clarity/attainable focus drops as much as the magnification goes up. With lower contrast subjects one gets much better resolution at 20x than 60x! And what the Vivitar web site won't tell is that despite the fact that they're based in California, the unit is made in China.
