Love These Little Radios.......2002-03-28

I just received the little Unwired UFR8502CM radios and went out to a ranch north of Ellensburg WA, and found the little radios to be great. I was over two miles away on flat ground on the other side of steel buildings and came in loud an clear. I also went up in the mountains and had no trouble talking at over two miles.

I had some switch problems with the radios and contacted Unwired and also Amazon about warrenty. Both Amazon and Unwired offered great replacement, except Uniwired gave me an upgrade for a amall fee.

Happy Elk Hunting. OH! I ordered two more.

Great drive if you get it cheap.......2002-07-08

I got this drive really cheap from Amazon, it's 30Gb firewire and runs flawlessly capturing video from my JVC 1394 DV camera on my laptop, although it's 5400 rpm it's fast enough to capture DV data (actually faster than my internal travelstar hard disk). Win 98se gets a little messed when connecting the DV camera, makes the drive read very slow but it's enough to unplug and plug back the drive to restore it's performance, I don't think it's the drive.

I use this drive often at school with video production/digital editing work. It's a decent drive with a fair amount of space (although in about three weeks we already maxed it out and had to buy another one) . . . However, we noticed lately that many times it just can't keep up when you're playing, oh say, a movie through an editing suite. This gets rather annoying when you have to get your project on tape that instant and the drive just won't cooperate.

If you're looking at finding a place to store files from digital editing (it'll gobble up your internal drive faster than you can say "After Dark"), I'd suggest looking at some others first. But if you don't need it for something quite that intense on the drive, I'd say it was a pretty good choice

Lots and lots of space.......2000-12-13

I purchased this drive several months ago and have not encountered any major problems. I have experienced only two minor problems. The first, is that a small amount of noise can be heard when it is reading and writing. The other is that the drive has failed to appear on my desktop a few times when I start-up or re-start the computer.

I am using a Power Mac G3 computer which has had the processor upgraded to a G4. I purchased the Western Digital Fire Wire PCI card at the same time as the hard drive. That being said, I had no problems with the installation or the set-up and would recommend it to anyone needing additional storage at a fair price.

I'm sure it's the same except for the capacity. I too had a great deal of trouble getting it to work with my laptop. Western Digital even told me not to stream video to the drive, (no explanation). The problems were with the firewire drivers that were loaded onto my laptop. It is working now and is very very fast. I think that for the money it is the best mass storage solution for laptops that have the firewire port.

Too Expensive in comparison.......2000-06-29

I have a Xerox laser printer P8EX which uses the Xerox 113R296 printer cartridge. Although I don't have complaints regarding the quality of the cartridges, I am disgusted about the high price of this cartridge in comparison with the pricing of laser cartridges for similar laser printers! For example, most of the similar HP laser printers utilize cartridges which can be purchased for $50-80.00 each and produce the same quality printing. In fact, XEROX themselves manufacture HP compatible cartridges which can be purchased for well under $100, while the cartridges which they manufacture for their own printers typically cost up to $150.00! It appears that XEROX has found that they can make more money manufacturing laser cartridges for other more popular brands of printers than they can for their own brand of printers! Too bad they're not more interested in providing printer cartridges at a reasonable price for purchasers of their own printers! Considering the cost of the XEROX cartridges, the XEROX printer is more disposable than continuing to purchase the replacement cartridges.

Toner Cartridge Fits Like a Glove.......2000-06-17

I use a Xerox WorkCentre 385 Printer that works with the Xerox 113R296 Print Cartridge.

The first thing that I noticed about the print cartridge is that it is incredibly easy to use. There is no mess installing the cartridge and it snaps in easily -- even for a person like me who is somewhat mechanically challenged. The print cartridge also works well right out of the box, and provides crisp, clear documents, faxes, and copies immediately.

My main criticism is price. The cartridge is somewhat expensive. However, on a per-page basis, I believe that the cartridge will be a fair deal.

For anyone who as a kid ever used a walkie-talkie, the V-Talk handheld person-to-person communicators feel refreshingly familiar. But even though they come in a variety of translucent colors and fit easily into the palm of your hand, V-Talk radios are by no means toys.

With a 2-mile range, these devices offer some serious communication potential. Granted that our signal was relatively unobstructed, in our tests we could hear one another clearly from across department stores ("Honey, are we done shopping yet?"), on the other side of a large lake, and even for a while on commuter trains racing in opposite directions.

For basic use, the V-Talk is quite simple to handle. Just turn it on, set both devices to the same communications channel, and then hold down the PTT (push to talk) button to transmit. The V-Talk is a fully equipped FRS (Family Radio Service) communicator with 14 channels. It allows you to monitor channels before transmission to ensure that you don't interrupt another conversation. And it offers 38 CTCSS (Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System) sub-band codes, giving you more combinations to choose from to keep your conversations private.

To prevent your discussions from being overhead the old-fashioned way (by anyone nearby curiously perking up their ears), the V-Talk contains a headphone output and microphone input port so you can hook up a headset for more discreet conversing.

The V-Talk is powered by three AAA batteries instead of rechargeable battery packs that some other radios use, but it also offers some features designed to extend battery life. The automatic power-off attribute shuts down the radio after 30 minutes of inactivity. And a time-out timer stops the V-Talk from transmitting if the PTT button has been held down for either 30 seconds or 3 minutes (set by the user).

I left it sitting on the shelf for a few months w/ batteries inside. When I went to use it, it had drained the batteries. Battery life also seems too short. I'd suggest getting FRS radios that take AA batteries even though they are somewhat larger.

It is clear and loud and has decent range (not sure what other folks are used to, especially the guy who tested 210 radios but didn't post what the top 3 were from his results). It also has the key features (lots of channels and subcode), so it's a relatively good deal for FRS radios.

Having owned a pair of Motorolas that cost twice as much, I can tell you that these are a great buy. Well built, with pretty much the same feature set as the Motorola brand. Battery life is the same as the Motorolas; the more you talk the less battery life you get, as transmission burns up the battery life much more than reception.

I think the most important purchase criteria here is how you intend to use them, as usable distance varies considerable with terrain. If you are in flat farmlands then you can expect 2 miles, otherwise it is typically less than a 1 mile of effective range. In cities I've found it to sometimes be as little as 200 or 300 feet (that's less than 1/10 of a mile).

FRS radios can be used with great success in many situations, such as at Disneyworld (yep, you can stay in touch with lose your kids or significant other), shopping in big cities (I hang out on the street while my wife takes the girls inside), when the kids are biking near the house, etc. If that's what you have in mind, then this is a good purchase.

This is not a good product! The range is bad!!!(only 1/2 mile, when it says 2 miles) I test radios for a living and the rank low out of 210 radios it ranks 198 ot of 210. It is good for backyard use only for kids playing! DO NOT BUY IT!!!

I had been on a quest looking for that perfect gift for my seven year old son. Initially, I looked at the Motorola TalkAbout, but was put off by the [price tag] - I mean that's just too much to spend on something that will probably wind up trashed. Anyways, I found the VTech walkie talkie (personal radio) here [and] got 'em.

The quality is pretty good (worked right out of the box), it's got some key features (NOT as many as the Motorola), it looks good (we got blue and purple), and at this price is almost disposable. Our son and his friends LOVE playing with them (great range and clear) and we've even used them for real communication (I located my family at Costco)! In the final analysis, when you can find a good product this cheap, jump on it.

Although the first pair of these ordered didn't work, Amazon.com replaced them within about three seconds, and the new pair works great. Just the right size, and I get fairly good range with them. All in all, I'm quite pleased, and it seems the price has dropped a bit more since I bought mine.
