Please Make The Beeping Stop!.......2005-08-17
Well, I purchased this monitor based on rave reviews for gaming purposes. Truly the monitor has been great with one exception: The bloody thing beeps whenever it on standby or turned off but plugged into an outlet.
I have sent the unit in for repair twice and have been without the monitor for over 2 months and still the unit is broken. The Viewsonic service team is just plain non-communicative and apparently incapable of fixing an easy unterminated signal issue. When I ask them how they repaired the unit they have no information as the repair site is in California and the customer service office is overseas.
So...roll the dice if you like. The monitor is good if you don't mind crawling under your workspace everyday to plug/unplug the unit.

Picture is very nice, clear, smooth, and bright. I certainly don't miss my old CRT. The stand it comes with is the best I've come across yet. It adjusts for hight, pan (left/right), and tilt(forward/back) without much effort and nothing to tighten/loosen to get it to stay put. It'll rotate 90 degrees as well but haven't found a use for that yet. I use mine for gaming, movies/tv, photo work, and regular BS. Much easier on the eyes and doesn't ghost when the action moves fast. While I would love it even more if it had a higher resolution that 1280x1040, I'll never go back to CRT's to get it.
No dead pixals yet (X fingers) but then again all LCD get them sooner or later. It's been in operation since Feb 2004.
You can count on bad pixels.......2004-06-06
Since the beginning of the year, all monitors at the place where I work are being gradually replaced by Viewsonic VE710 units. It was my first experience using an LCD monitor on a daily basis, and after few weeks, I wanted to purchase one for myself. I decided on the model VP171B mostly for the DVI connector. After receiving it, I noticed bad pixels on the screen. I contacted Amazon and asked for a replacement. The new one arrived in three days (thank you Amazon, you rule!), and guess what? Bad pixels again.
I may not be the luckiest person but, what are the odds of getting two bad monitors in a row? The only explanation I can find is poor quality control. Even though I liked the design and functionality of the monitor, I cannot recommend it.
5 months and it breaks.........2004-05-22
I loved this monitor, it had beautiful color and resolution every thing that I need for working on video editing. That is until it just went black in the middle of my project due in three days! How could something held in such high respect be so lacking of quality. I took every step to ensure this monitor wouldn't burn out any time soon. It never sat on, never was left to burn the image, and always dusted and kept clean.
Honestly, just to be fair I am sure I got one out of 500 that break. However I have to pay shipping to get it to Viewsonic for warranty repair/replacement; that is not good service. Then after three seperate emails I am not told how long it will take to get it back and that if I want an express exchange to get one immediately, I am told they will have to put an authorization on my card for the retail amount of the monitor.
Still no word from them on return time estimate. I would have to fear what the other person says about warranty service and hope that the $3000 computer I used this with doesn't sit and waste in the time that it will take to be back at work again.
We shall see, however I would not recommend this monitor nor would I buy another after my initial experience with it and the company.
Best 17" LCD Monitor On The Market.......2004-05-12
This is the best monitor out there, the features packed into it such as 2 analog inputs, 1 dvi input, portrait and landscape screen rotation, sliding telescopic stand (not like Dell's which only "pops" from low to high) and the clarity and crispness of the images could not be beat. I shopped around for months before making the leap to LCD, and after bringing home (and then returning) monitors from Dell, Sharp and Samsung - on every level, Viewsonic's VP171B is the best.
When the price dropped to $519 on Amazon, I decided to replace all my CRTs, I BOUGHT 3 OF THEM!

The WorkCentre makes a great impression, even just coming out of its box. It seems solidly built, attractive, and unimposing. To setup the WorkCentre, we followed the included Quick Reference Card, which covers unpacking the unit, attaching the accessories, inserting the toner cartridge, and installing the PC software. These instructions permitted essentially flawless setup in about 10 minutes.
Just after we turned on the WorkCenter, we started making copies. The controls were intuitively obvious for enlarging, reducing, and setting the number of copies. The output was rich, sharp, and detailed; the gray shades were balanced, and there were no unexpected spots, blemishes, or streaks.
To test the printing functions, we started our favorite graphics program and printed previously scanned artwork. The output was very sharp, and the WorkCentre's gray-scale interpretation of our original's color was utilitarian-looking in 300 dpi and warm-looking in 600 dpi.
We also tested a variety of TrueType fonts, and the text was, of course, 600-dpi-laser-pefect. Colored text was interpreted and gray-scaled as we expected, although the red and green in our original appeared not only gray but also pixelated in the output.
Overall printing was very fast, both in terms of paper path throughput and the time to transfer data from our PC to the WorkCentre's memory buffer. Only 65 seconds passed between clicking the Print button in our Windows application holding eight copies of output in our hands.
Except for the initial setup, we did not need to consult the documentation for any printing or copying functions. We admire the WorkCentre's straightforward design, setup, and suitability to function. This is an excellent printer/copier for the small office environment.

I bought this machine for my personal use. Being a college student living in a dorm, you can guess how many ppl use this machine and it's still giving the same performance as on Day 1! The only thing that's missing is a scanner which could've been added since it'a already a digital copier.
I Dare you to find better.......2000-02-18
Find me a Laser Digital machine that can Copy and Print 8.5x14 for $349. I don't think it exists. The paper tray holds 250 sheets and the unit has a 3 year warranty. This unit is a die hard consistent Copier/printer. It's just a work horse. The cover even lifts up when you have to put books on it. Even though it says copies are only 6 pages a minute, the consistency at which they came out seemed more like 8 or so. It does print at 8 pages per minute, but only copies at 6. To get a laser printer/copier for $349 is a great deal no matter how you look at it. Besides, its a Xerox. These guys invented this stuff.

this hard drive was my first hard drive that i ever bought over 3gb, and it was really great... i bought mine about 2 years ago because i was sick of having such lack of space. and it's worked for a while. i'm looking to buy another one soon. good if u wanna save some money... not recomended for "top of the line" computers.

I bought this hard drive because the old one that originally came with my system broke. Compared to my other 2gb hard drive, its the best thing since sliced bread. Drive speed might be a little slow but I wanted to save a few bucks. Great drive, recommened if you wanna save some cash.
Typical Good Western Digital.......2002-06-28
Western Digital has remained my drive of choice for the past 10 years. This drive did not let me down, it is quiet and fast and has had no problems for past year and half. Installation was simple and quick. I also have a 30G Seagate and it too is fast and easy to set up but is more noisy. One advantage to buying the retail box version is you get the UDMA ribon.

Piece of garbage. I tried to save a few bucks, now I regret it. The drive failed after only 6 weeks in my system. Had to reinstall my old drive while I wait 7-10 business days for a replacement I don't want.

Western Dig has made great drives for the last five years. Prior years were questionable, but these new drives are just fine for the home user. The easy to use utilities make the hard drive switch a snap! Enjoy!
