If your thinking about buying a ViewSonic, THINK TWICE!
And when you droul over the wonderful quality of what is before
you, and the screen goes blank (during a dead line) remember how much it is going to cost you when you have to ship it back to Calafornia. and when you get your replacement don't be so sure
that it is any better, (or the replacement after it!) And if you think that's alright viewsonic would never send me a defective monitor, I have a wonderful warranty and that's all I need, THINK TWICE!

Fantastic Picture but some interface problems..........2001-10-23

I am very happy with this monitor... so much so that I have one for home and for work. But while featuring an incredible picture (which is great for all my at home applications), I've been disappointed with some of the other features.

Beyond the lack of pivoting for W2K (not a problem at home, using W98-2ndEd) and the marginal speakers (fine for home), I bought this monitor because of the two video inputs. I am driving two computers at work and want to quickly switch back and forth between the two. Unfortunately the VP181 often seems to believe that the dormant computer is not providing any video signal and so when you try to toggle, it claims that there is no active signal and reverts to the original computer's input. Sort of frustrating. I have to jiggle the mouse of the dormant computer before toggling the VP, then it switches.

Also, while the switch interface on the base will not be a problem for the light user (who is driving only one computer), a single button to hit to switch both video and audio input from computer 1 to computer 2 would be nice. Currently, the user needs to switch the video and audio separately. Seven pushes of the buttons (preceeded by a jiggle of computer 2's mouse).

The speakers and USB ports don't work in Digital mode, but if you attach both digital and analog cables and the analog signal is live, then you can select the digital input and the analog signal will keep the base unit powered up which will allow the USB ports and speakers to work. However, the analog signal must be up.

If you have defective pixels viewsonic will say that they will replace it if the panel has 6 bad pixels, or 18 bad subpixels. Buyer beware.

The Hercules Geforce DDR/DVI or the GTS may ruin this display...

Pivot for W2K is available.......2001-07-10

Very good monitor -- I bought it for home, now the 21" tube display at work looks bad :-( Because of the video card I'm using, I've had to turn the refresh rate down to 60Hz, but since I don't watch movies, who cares? I'd have been happier with a digital video connection, but Dell doesn't include that unless you buy the LCD panel from them, too.

Unlike other reviewers, I was able to get the W2K update for the Pivot s/w, but that was last fall and it did require me to pay for the upgrade. Now I keep the monitor in portrait mode almost all the time.

And yes, the resolution is 1280x1024 (or 1024x1280 ;-)

Thr VG181 Is a very good flat panel With clear colors and good contrast but despite the technical specification You can only use it in Landscape and not in portait condition. The software Viewsonic delivers (bought in november last year) is not up to date to use it with windows2000. The so called update on their web site is not working. After many questions even viewsonic is not able to help me.

So do not buy if you consider to pivot

not CD quality, but not bad.......2006-04-28

For me, it does what it's supposed to do. I've had no trouble tuning it in, but I'm in a rural area and haven't tested it in the city. The sound is better than some reviews I had read - it's definitely not CD quality, but neither is it tinny and unlistenable, unless you're into classical music. If I were going to keep this car I'd opt to replace the broken CD player instead. But for $25-30 this is not a bad solution. I have used it only with a thumb drive, not my mp3 player, which is a neater package in the car. Can't shuffle-play or select playlists that way, but oh well. The only problem I've had with it is, it grips the cigarette lighter socket so tightly, it pulled the socket right out of the dash. Maybe I need a new car.

Xerox P8 Printer Same As TI Win/4.......2005-03-01

I've had a Texas Instruments Win/4 laser printer for about 10 years--it is exactly the same printer as the Xerox P8, uses the same drivers and parts. This has been a very dependable laser printer, the toner goes a long way, and I see no reason to buy a new laser printer until I can buy color lasers at B&W prices. I'm glad Amazon carries these hard-to-find toner cartridges.

I have the 45GB & 13.6GB version of this drive that I use for storage of MP3 and home videos. I have been very happy with both of my drives and I have had no problems with either one. Most people when asked about Western Digital Hard Drives will say that they are not reliable, but that has not been the case with my two Western Digital drives. They perform like champs. Hands down Western Digital is the leading VALUE hard drive maker. If you want the biggest and fastest IDE drive, check out a IBM DESKSTAR, but be propared for sticker shock. The Western Digital's quiet 5,400 rpm rotation speed is ideal for home users, but business users might want to opt for a faster 7200 rpm drive. However, the Western Digitals 2MB Buffer size helps it almost keep pace with most 7200 rpm rotation speed drives produced today, and it's price is hard to beat!

The Voice It VT90 may have decent sound quality for its extremely slim design, but its usefulness is minimized by a 90-second maximum recording time. That should be plenty for capturing some quick thoughts during your commute or recording directions, but there are plenty of digital voice recorders on the market that offer better features for around the same amount of money.

Simplistic controls also diminish the VT90's overall value, as there is no way to adjust the playback volume or microphone sensitivity. It is possible to quickly skip from one voice file to the next, but once it is being played back there is no way to fast-forward or rewind the recording. If you need to back up a little to hear the last part of a phone number, you are forced to start from the beginning of that particular recording. The only other controls besides the record, play, and file navigation buttons are a pair of buttons used to erase files and a memo button that makes a green light blink to alert users that an important message is waiting.

At least the VT90 was easy to set up. We popped the four included lithium batteries into the back of the device and it was good to go. The recorder can be slipped into the included plastic jacket with belt clip for easy transportation, but it's so thin we preferred to carry it in a pocket. A better option would have been the inclusion of a cover for the front of the device, as sometimes the buttons were accidentally pressed as we moved around.

We had to hold the VT90 relatively close to our mouth to get a decent recording, but fortunately the built-in speaker was loud and clear enough so that we could set it on a desk and still hear everything well enough to transcribe it.

If you really just need 90 seconds of recording time and are in the market for an extremely portable recorder, the VT90 is an inexpensive choice. But we predict most people will end up wishing for better controls and more audio memory than this device offers. --T. Byrl Baker

Okay read the other reviews for how it works. I have had mine for eight years. I have dropped it, washed it with the clothes, exposed it to heat, cold, had my two year old play with it, lost it for six months under the sofa, and sat on it a few thousand times. IT STILL WORKS. For taking quick notes, it can't be beat. It will not die...

This is a great little voice recorder to have! It is handy in situations where it would be impractical or impossible to jot down notes. The voice recorder is quite small and lightweight. It is quite user friendly. The sound quality is excellent. This is the nicest voice recorder I ever had!

The Perfection of "Keeping-It-Simple"........2003-02-05

This is the most valuable and useful gadget I own. I'd be lost without it! There are hundreds of voice recorders on the market, but this one is THE BEST, because 1)It's so simple - the buttons are tactile so you don't need to look at it - ever. And there's only ONE keypress to start recording, and ONE to stop. 2) It's tiny - not much bigger than a business card. It's very thin. 3) It's durable. I've put mine through complete hell, and it works like a charm. You can drop it a thousand times. And, despite being so thin, it's still sturdy enought to not "bend" under pressure.

Sound quality is fine (for voice). Batteries last a year, even with frequent use.

And my favorite feature, for all you city-dwellers - sound quality is fine if you bring it right up to your mouth and whisper, pretending you have an itch. Which is exactly what you want to do in a public place, so people don't think you're a freak.

90 seconds goes a long way, if you speak succinctly. But if you need more, the VT300 model records 4 minutes, has a few more features, but is much thicker.

I have carried the VT-90 for over 6 years and only needed to change the batteries (the lithium type) twice. I recently misplaced the unit and have been LOST without my quick and easy note taker. I use it while on the hands-free cell phone while driving to repeat numbers or important phrases given to me in conversation. At meetings or receptions I use it to record contact names and/or numbers. I use it to record phone numbers, www.addresses or other information from radio or billboard ads. It is very easy to carry with me all the time to jot down those momentary thoughts, ideas or "oh my gosh-things I need to do stuff". As a quick verbal note pad - it can't be beat. I generally capture my notes later on my To-do list....it was easy to find a replacement on Amazon!
