It just CAUGHT ON FIRE. Lovely........2007-06-09

This was my first LCD monitor, and after a lot of research, it seemed a great deal for the price.

Tonight, while burning a DVD and surfing the web, the monitor went off. I figured it was my system crashing/rebooting, but nothing came up. When I went to turn the vx2025wm back on, I noticed it was smoking. I quickly unplugged it and it's now a useless piece of trash. I'm just glad I kept my old CRT monitor in storage.

Do I think this is a fluke? Perhaps. But I've never had a piece of equipment catch fire and I've always had a LOT of electronic devices in use. Just a heads-up.

Very Disappointed.......2007-06-02

I love ViewSonic, and I used to recommend it to everyone but today I changed my mind. One of my VX 2025 Flat screens started to show this white line accross the screen. I tried changing computers, cables, etc. but no use. I called ViewSonic and they said I can send it in for repair and wait at least 15 days to get it back. Maybe for home use thats ok but for work no way. Even Samsung that in my opinion makes horrible products offers an instant swap.

At first I was very unhappy, I started to panic :) all because I don't have a dvi port. So I had to set up colors for about 10 min. But when I was finished the magic started! The quality and looks of this monitor are unbelievable. slightly over 300$ for a good 20.1" widescreen? YES ! Everything about it is just great! Definitely worth buying.

This is a great monitor. I been using a Viewsonic at work for 6 years and have never had a problem. This is why I decided to purchase Viewsonic for home use. Great sub for the price.......2004-02-08

The problem:

I have an audiophile's appetite for electronics, but my budget doesn't include money for an audio system with the price tag of a Mercedes. OK, not even with the price tag of a used Toyota. Until I bought this sub, I was using a spare pair of 25 year old Koss speakers with 10" woofers to handle the bottom end. The Koss were designed for music reproduction, and not for the sound effects of movie soundtracks. They just didn't have the rumble and thump of a friend's $20,000 HT system. So, I figured I needed more oomph at the bottom.

The Solution:

I started looking for a good budget Subwoofer. I had been considering 12" subs by JBL, Infinity and HSU when I found a used Velo CT-100 in the Recycler, a magazine in Los Angeles which provides free classified advertising.

Veoldyne has a reputation for making some of the best subs on the market. I called another friend who used to be a rep for Harman Kardon about 30 years ago and asked his opinion. He said I'd like the driver. I immediately pulled the money out of the bank and drove the 150 mile round trip to buy the sub.

Impressions:

I got it home and attached it to the "Low Frequency Effects" out on my HK Signature 2.0 preamp/processor. I stuck the sub between my main speakers in the middle of the room -- positioned all wrong, and it still sounds good. I played Pink Floyd Dark Side (SACD), Govi - Andelusian Nights (CD), The Who - Tommy (SACD), Fourplay (DVD-Audio), and Steely Dan - Two Against Nature (DVD-Audio). This sub proves to be very musical.

Setting my preamp to pump out everything below 100Hz to the sub gave the bottom end a great deal of authority. Even though my Koss speakers are supposed to be flat to 30Hz, they don't match the volume and control in the bottom two octives. The Velo is neither boomy nor a 1 note wonder. And, it is reasonably efficient. I was able to pump all 400 watts of power from my Harman Kardon Citation 22 amp into my main speakers, and the Velo kept up pretty much effortlessly until the last few decibles.

Next, I tried to find a DVD with a good LFE track. I tried Gladiator, Harry Potter - Chamber of Secrets, and X-Men 2. None were satisfactory for a real workout. Finally, I turned to George Lucas. Star Wars II -- Attack of the Clones has a use other than as a coaster after all! All those marvelous Lucas space ship engines. And things getting blown up! And arms getting cut off by light-sabers! This is a very good unit for small to mid-size HT systems. It isn't as good as the one in my friend's $20K system with something like 1000 watts into 3 subs, with the dbx bass enhancer, but it is close enough for now.

All in all, I'm very happy with the sound and build of the unit. I think I'll keep it.

Strengths:
Good high end of mid-fi subwoofer with solid musical bass down to 32Hz and ample power.

Weaknesses:
Cheap spring loaded wire connectors, crummy black box appearance.

Velodyne 150-Watt 10" Subwoofer.......2002-06-17

Velodyne's 10" sub is a good addition to a small home theater set-up depending on the bass output of the front speaker. The results are a more defined bottom end without it being overpowering. Best advice: buy the product from a retailer where it can be easily returned if it does not work well with the rest of the system.

Unique and unbeatable convenience.......2001-10-26

I remember buying a Psion palm computer, and then an Ipaq Pocket PC to use as an organizer.

But for ease and convenience, absolutely nothing beats the Rex.

I mainly use as a little phone book, which I find myself in need a lot. Rather than bungling through my bag and looking for the Pocket PC, I just whip out the Rex and have the desired phone number in 1 minute.

I put the Rex in my front pocket of my pants, which may not be the best. However, my pants aren't that tight that it would be a big problem. I did have a Rex before where the screen started dying, but this was after years use. I don't think a wallet (back pocket) is a great place to put the Rex, as there probably isn't much slack back there (cough).

The Palm V is comparable, but it is still huge compared the the PC Card sized Rex.

The TruSync software wasn't as intuitive as I'd hope, but I got it working and sync'ed up with my Outlook data without any problems.

I am so happy with the Rex, that I have 2 just in case I lose one.

Phone book, Calendar & To-Do list.......2001-09-26

This is the greatest solution to carrying around a Phonebook, Calendar and & To-Do list I have ever seen!
Notebooks are just to large, cumbersome and take too long to boot up.
And compared to the REX, PDA's have the same handicaps. I understand you can do much more with a PDA but if Phone, Calendar and To-Do are what you want to do, this is it.
I fold my money around my Rex and keep it in my front pocket.
Intel has decided to drop the product line. The form/factor is exceptional.
This is a very, very good product and it serves a very definite, although limited, purpose.
The new breed of cell phones will make this product obsolete but for now it just does the job.

shangs75 wrote that the rex 5000 doesn't take addresses. It does. The box and website is missleading too bacause all you see is a name and a phone number, but actually there is a lot more that you can't see. This is my first day with it so disregard my rating. lh

Not compatible or defective?.......2001-05-15

I could NEVER synchronize this thing with the PC. I use a Dell Optiplex GX1 with Windows NT 4.0, and it has Lotus Notes for e-mail and PIM. (Not my choice, its corporate software.) Finding and downloading the "driver" or "module" for Notes required a detective's investigation in their website, and their TrueSync software could not even synchronize with their own TrueSync PIM. When the Rex was finishing the sync, I always got an error message in Windows, regardless if I tried to sync with Notes or the "native" PIM software included in the CD.

Its software has serious quality issues with Windows 4.0, it proved this toy is incompatible with corporate computers. Maybe it was a defect in the Rex itself or its serial craddle, but I will never have the time to find out. PDAs are meant to save time, not to loose it on silly technical problems.

I will miss its down to earth simplicity and really portable size, but unfortunately it was never functional in my working environment. It seems that a Palm or Visor is as good as it gets for a basic, small, compatible, and dependable PDA.

Good value for money.......2001-04-20

I have recently purchased both the 5001 and the 6000 series REX, and found the 5001 to be more flexible in its synching options, and less delicate.

I use my REX primarily as an address book, to do list and notes. Input is not a big issue for me, nor is Web content downloads.

The 5001 uses the Starfish TrueSync technology to synch with any number of devices, including cell phones, Yahoo and Palm Desktop. I actually synch mine with both Palm Desktop and Yahoo simultaneously so that I have access to my addresses over the Internet.

The 6000 does not support TrueSync, limiting my synchronization options to be only Outlook, and the bundled desktop application. The 6000 also seems to be more delicate with both the screen and the buttons.

Bottom line: I just returned my 6000 and am ordering a second 5001.
